Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 'conference day' and the 'hackaton'?
What is a 'hackaton'?

The Cocoon GetTogether is traditionally a 1 day conference. This year, the conference will take place on Friday, October 5th in Rome.

Because open source developers rarely meet each other face to face and mostly communicate only by email, next to the conference day there are two extra 'hackaton' days before the actual conference. During the hackaton days, there is no real program outline, but there are rooms provided, WiFi internet access, whiteboards, power outlets, and most importantly - food and drinks. The attendees form the program themselves, drawing out a schedule on one of the whiteboards. There are random talks on very diverse Cocoon subjects. Some developers sit down together to work on tough problems or bugs that need to be solved in the Cocoon codebase. Others are working on the documentation, discuss samples or problems they have with their own Cocoon implementation. Since everyone is available right there, you can easily ask questions - especially the ones that are too embarrassing to ask on the Cocoon mailinglists! All in all, the hackaton is a lot of fun, and a really inspiring event if you want to know more about Cocoon and the developers behind it.
